Music and art are an important part of what makes us human. Every culture on the planet creates its own unique form of music and art. Scientists have discovered that music and art effect our brain, but you don't even have to be a scientist to know how music and art effect your own creativity. Music and art are powerful languages that enable us to express our feelings, emotions, memories and dreams. In this class we will become familiar with the great movements in music and art. We will learn how these two worlds are really one; both express inner beauty and human creativity. We will learn how new ways of understanding the world effected both the music and art of those periods. We will create our own works of art as we learn.

We'll use the maps of the museum to guide us through the halls and wings and discuss a few selections of artwork at the museum. When possible, we'll hear from individuals who are involved with the museum (directors, curators) and listen to them discuss the artwork.

Ms. V will incorporate supplemental resources about the museums, whether it be a book we read together in class or recommended reading. This class will be presented via PowerPoint and is lecture base. When possible, relevant audio and video clips will be used. Students will be asked to research artwork in particular museums and present.

Some of the museums that we will visit will include but not limited to the Art Institute of Chicago (Ms. V's alma mater as she studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the school adjacent to AIC), the Louvre in Paris, France, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
