Starting with basic grammar, we will learn many useful ways in which Italians communicate and write as well as the Italian art of dialogue and friendship. As we learn new vocabulary, we will get to see, close up, the world of Italy as it is today. Through the acquisition of their language we will explore Italian culture, music and art. We will develop listening and speaking skills as we master the study of Italian grammar concepts. We will intersperse our classes with stories and anecdotes of famous Italians and Italian cities. We will watch short videos and listen to Italians talk and go about their daily life.  Italian 2 will be offered in 2018  - 2019.

This course is an introduction to the Latin language and will be appropriate for middle school or first year high school language studies. The Henle curriculum is a classical approach to the language and uses both ancient and liturgical references to teach students Latin. An understanding of English parts of speech is recommended as this will be a spring board for studying Latin grammar.  Latin 2 will be offered in 2018 - 2019.

This class will be very interactive requiring participation from the student.  We will be using the text and exercises from the Living Language curriculum as the foundation of our class, but there will also be lots of rote learning and repetition where students will be required to repeat out loud the words and phrases.  Special emphasis will be placed upon pronunciation.  There will be some writing, but it will be mostly contained to simple phrases and vocabulary words.  Additionally, we will be learning verb conjugations and French sentence structure.  French 2 will be offered in 2018 - 2019.

Can hearing people be a part of the Deaf community? Why are cochlear implants so controversial? Are Signed Exact English, American Sign Language, and Pidgin Sign all the same thing? In what ways are Deaf people and people with disabilities similar and different? What type of careers can I obtain working with Deaf people? These are a few of the many questions we will dialogue, debate, and answer this semester. This course is designed to introduce you to the most important aspects of the American Deaf experience. We will expose the history, contributions, and contemporary lives of Deaf people in America. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we will address topics such as the diversity of Deaf people, Deaf cultural norms, Deaf arts, and Deaf international communities. This course will provide you will a foundation on which future Deaf Studies classes will expand.

How would you go about ordering a meal in an Israeli hamburger joint? Learn the basic language skills necessary for meeting new friends, playing a game of basketball, and travelling around Israel. Ever wonder how "¡Cuidado! ¡Piso Mojado!" is pronounced? Should you say "Hasta la vista, baby"? to your Spanish speaking friends or did the Terminator get it wrong? Come find out in our Spanish 1 class! In this class students will learn proper Spanish pronunciation, new words in their context, verb conjugations and how to use them, and conversational skills. Focus is on all four language skills- comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking. Deep dives into Colombian, Spanish, Mexican and Puerto Rican cultures will be part of the course. These country specific modules will be used to gain greater insight in the variations of Spanish and cultural elements between countries. Regular attendance is highly encouraged since progress will be assessed through class participation. Students will be assigned written and oral homework, and will be required to interact on a daily basis with Spanish using recorded audio files created by the teacher for each class exclusively in Spanish as well as other supplemental materials.  Spanish 2 will be offered in 2018 - 2019.
