The greatest connection we can have throughout history is the human one. Together, in Profiles in History, the students and I will take a unique perspective on each historical figure by sharing some of the lesser known facts that you may not have heard before. As we learn about each individual, we will focus on the strength of his character. The goal is to connect with the person – not just the history.
During session one, we will learn about inventors, artists, statesmen and explorers that made a significant difference in the world around them and forever changed the future. We will begin in the year 1200 and continue through 1890.
During this class, students will also learn beginning IEW WRITING techniques to enhance their learning. Although not a formal writing class, students will be taught from Units I, II and IV in IEW's Teaching Writing: Structure and Style. This will expose them to taking notes, verbal rehearsals, non-fiction summaries and report writing. Additionally, students will apply the rules of banned words and be taught some stylistic techniques.
This class will combine history, reading comprehension, reading activities, writing, timelines and creativity! I can’t wait to have your child join me in this fabulous adventure meeting people from all different times and places.
NOTE: You do not have to take Session Two and/or Session Three to participate in Session One. All Profiles from History classes are STAND ALONE classes. You can take them in any order!
NOTE: Registration deadline is August 26, 2019.
