During 2020-2021, OTA is offering three trimesters that last 10 weeks each.
Open Tent Academy (OTA) offers 5-week, 10-week, 20-week and 30-week classes within three trimesters: fall, winter and spring.
Although Open Tent Academy is a secular consortium, we respect all faiths. We do our best to provide time off for the major holidays within Christianity, Judaism and Islam. In 2021 – 2022, OTA’s calendar will begin the week of October 4, 2021 since the Jewish High Holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simcha Torah) are sprinkled throughout September. Students will have the traditional Thanksgiving break as well as winter break off, which allows students, who celebrate Christmas, time off. During the spring of 2022, we will provide time off for Passover and Easter as well as a week off for Eid al Fitr.
In order to accommodate all three major religions, we do not give Monday holidays, such as Columbus Day, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Day and Memorial Day, time off. The beauty of online education is that our live classes are recorded so that if you opt to take additional time for any holiday, your child can watch the recording so that they do not miss any class content.
If you are taking year long IEW Writing classes, such as Introduction to Writing, Powerful Paragraph, Middle School Writing, All About Essays and High School Research and More, as always, these classes run on a different schedule meeting 14 times during the school year – typically – every other week – A Week or B Week – except for holidays. During 2021 – 2022, writing classes will begin in early October. Please note at the BOTTOM of this page for the specific dates.
Finally, all sessions have a “make-up date” if a class needs to be cancelled by the instructor. Instructors will inform parents if this “make-up” date will be used.
As you can imagine, creating a schedule to guarantee that those who celebrate a major religious holiday has a day off is quite a task. We work very hard at this. If I have overlooked something, please email me personally at eva@opententacademy.com so I can include it in future schedules.
If you have any questions regarding class dates, please email admin@opententacademy.com. Please make note of the specific dates of your learner’s classes.
