Who loves a good tragedy faced with family drama? If these Greek tragedies were staged today, they would be popular among all age groups! This course is the study of an introduction to Greek tragedy as a literary and ritual form through close readings of several Greek Tragedies. We will look at the ideas the tragedies convey, and study details of their staging, culminating in a detailed study and performance of an individual play. Reading will focus attention to poetic language, dramatic technique, and historical/ritual context. During this part of the course, the students will express themselves creatively and intuitively. Because of the dialogue nature of this class, students will need a functioning microphone.
NOTE: Registration deadline is April 6, 2020.
