ASL 3 – HS Level – 30 Weeks – 2023-2024
$ 600.00
9 available

Does your child already have basic conversational skills in American Sign Language? This is the class that will cement your child’s understanding and fluency of ASL. ASL Level 3 will be conducted completely in American Sign Language and students will not have the option to use their microphones in class.

In this course, we will move to advanced ASL storytelling, introductory interpreting, and translation. In addition, students will be assigned projects to translate and interpret on their own. By the end of the class, students should be fluent in ASL and able to converse with a Deaf person they meet in real life.

The curriculum parallels what we know about language development and second language learning. We focus on introducing language in context and reinforcing what is learned by engaging you into various interactive activities. A conversational curriculum requires you to be an active learner. You need to come prepared to sign with me and other classmates.

** NOTE:  Most states and colleges accept ASL as a Foreign Language; however, some do not. Please verify with your state/college you are interested in if they will accept ASL as a Foreign Language credit.

This course is worth 1 Foreign Language or Elective High School Credit.

NOTE: This class must reach the minimum of five students by August 20th to run. If we do not reach this minimum, parents will be notified via email.

Wonderful ASL teacher!

Rated 5 out of 5

My daughter is in her second year of taking ASL from Mrs. Lavin. Mrs. Lavin is an amazing teacher. My child has learned so much from her and has grown in her confidence both in ASL and also in her ability to tackle new things. Now in her 4th year of ASL, my daughter wants to continue learning and has gained the knowledge she needs to be successful thanks to this teacher. Mrs. Lavin has made my child feel comfortable, she has challenged her, and she is great at reaching out and responding to questions and does a great job at keeping parents abreast of what’s going on in class. I highly recommend taking a class with this professor!

Amazing Teacher and Experience

Rated 5 out of 5

My daughter had been taking classes with Mrs. Lavin for 2 years now and I highly recommend her for ASL. She takes time with the students and provides them with ASL understanding, allowing them to grow in the language. Feel blessed to have found Mrs. Lavin. My daughter is now completing her 4th year in ASL and is driven to continue learning ASL in college, which I know is from her experience with Mrs. Lavin.
