Calling all Rock Hounds! Rocks & minerals is a 10 week course designed to help students understand the formation and use of rocks and minerals. We will study the uses of minerals, compare the formation of different rocks as well as learn to identify different rocks and minerals. Each class will incorporate hands on activities and interactive notebooks to keep us organized.
This is an online class with hands on class activities. Students will be required to read, take notes, and apply concepts discussed in class with weekly assignments. In addition, each student will select a topic of their choice for a culminating project. This project allows students to explore their favorite rocks and crystals.
Dinosaurs, extinctions and geologic time are captivating topics. By the end of this course students will have a solid foundation in the major eras of earth’s geologic past, the appearance of life and massive extinctions.
Expect 1 – 2 hours of at home assignments which range from reading an article, taking an online quiz, or answering questions about that week’s topic.
NOTE: Registration deadline is August 15, 2022.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
