American and other Western dancers have long attempted to preserve both traditional and modern styles of dance originating from the Middle East and North Africa. Each class will begin with about 30 minutes of review and new Fun Facts about a Mid-Eastern country or region, followed by about 45 minutes of ACTIVE DANCE EXERCISE from that week’s region. Each exercise portion will include a warm-up, authentic dance moves, and a cool-down. Course will end with a Fun Fact Presentation and Recital for families!
Ms. Rachel believes folk dance should be SERIOUS FUN! We will respectfully learn about foreign cultures while practicing the spirit of joyful community and getting some great exercise! Targeted to Western students, both boys and girls, ranging from complete beginners to accomplished dancers.
Goals:
- Explore Mid-Eastern cultures
- Participate in active dance exercise
- Learn and perform both improvised and choreographed dance movements
