If you love the creatures of the sea, then you will love this class!  This is an introductory course for students that are interested in understanding the marine environment. We will explore all marine organisms, their physical and behavioral characteristics, and adaptation they have to live in their marine environment.  From the shores to the trenches we will  cover marine all habitats. So if you’re crazy about coral or love lobsters, then sign up for Dive Deep! Calling All Marine Biologists to Be!

This is an online class with hands on class activities.  Students will be required to read, take notes, and apply concepts discussed in class with weekly assignments. In addition, each student will select a topic of their choice for a culminating project. This project allows students to dive deep in to their curiosity of marine organisms and their habitats.

Life in the marine environment can be both familiar and other worldly. By the end of this course students will have a solid foundation in the various phyla of marine organism and their habitat.

NOTE: This class must reach the minimum of five students by August 20th to run. If we do not meet this minimum, parents will be notified via email.

Review of Big Blue: Oceanography

Ms. Sarah is one awesome teacher! She is super flexible with due dates, and is really engaging with her class!

Engaging and Fun

My daughter took Astronomy with Mrs. Pope. She learned so much and enjoyed the end of year project.

Fantastic Class!

My son loves the Forensics class taught by Ms. Sarah. He is fully engaged in the class and has learning so much from it. He enjoys the hands on activities and “solving” the mysteries/crimes. It is great to see him get excited about a class. Ms. Sarah is truly a great teacher. She is super easy to talk to and loves receiving questions. She has an energy that is just wonderful for this age!

Dive right into this!

This was the first interactive online class our daughter took with Mrs. Pope and she wound up hooked! She was ready for class early every week and was even upset when a “vacation day” happened because she so wanted to be in class.

The most memorable piece was how this class was able to be taught anywhere. On dissection day, our family had an emergency and one of my friends offered to allow my daughter to bring all of her dissection materials to her home so the class wouldn’t be missed. Her three sons heard about what was being dissected and observed the class and started asking questions themselves. It’s amazing how one’s love of a class can become contagious! Thank you, OTA, for making classes be taught anywhere!

So – that is where they live!

After taking the Dig Deep Marine Biology course, my daughter wanted to take more ocean related classes.. She was so thrilled to find out she could take Big Blue with Mrs. Pope. Mrs. Pope continued to do a wonderful job providing hands on projects that expanded her knowledge and love more marine biology life. If you have a child who is interested in how the ocean works or wants to get into a marine field, this class is great to take!
