This is a ten-week INTENSIVE class on ESSAY WRITING.

Students NEED the time to do this class right.  Every single week, your child will write 1 five-paragraph essay.  Writing a GOOD middle school / high school essay takes time.  There is a process they will learn to follow. Be prepared for your student to write for about 5 hours weekly.  Please make sure you understand that time commitment.  I will repeat – this is an INTENSIVE class.

This class will follow IEW format. Students will learn structure as well as stylistic techniques.

If your child has taken a writing class where they focused on 5-paragraph writing (IEW or not), this is a good review for them!

If your child has struggled with writing, this is a good review for them!

If your child is joining OTA’s Middle School Writing or All About Essays, this is a FABULOUS jump start for them!

The more they practice the better they will get!

Weeks 1 and 2 – Critique Writing

Weeks 3 and 4 – Expository Essay

Weeks 5 and 6 – Persuasive Essay

Weeks 7 and 8 – Compare / Contrast Essays

Weeks 9 and 10 – Narrative Essays

Please note:  A special emphasis on dramatic openings will take place during class three and four.

Stylistic Techniques will include but not be limited to….. LY adverb, adjective/adjective noun, adjective clause, adverbial clause, because clause, sentence openers, teeter totters, similes, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphors and potentially more!

NOTE: Registration deadline is March 15, 2021.

There must be a minimum of FIVE students to run this class.
