In this ten-part class, thought experiments and hypotheticals will lead us into discussions on real world ethical dilemmas.  Studying ethics is incredibly fun, and it also develops critical thinking and logical reasoning skills.  But most importantly, studying ethics helps people develop their own moral codes.

Every one of us has to make ethical choices throughout our lives.  There is an ethical dimension to every aspect of life, whether it is our relationships with friends and family, our academic lives, or our jobs.  We have to make choices about what actions to take; we have to decide what is right and what is wrong.  The goal of this course is to give you tools to use when you are faced with these kinds of decisions.  We will explore some of the most important philosophies of ethics, and we will see how thought experiments relate to very real, concrete situations.

This is a discussion class–there will not be any lectures.  We will use thought experiments, or hypothetical ethical dilemmas, to focus our discussions on various questions and ideas in ethics.  Students should come to class prepared to have their cameras on and actively participate.

Students should expect approximately one hour of homework per week.  Assignments will include short writing assignments in response to our discussions.

NOTE: This class must reach the minimum of five students by August 20th to run. If we do not reach this minimum, parents will notified via email.

Funny and Informative

I have taken several ethics classes with Ms. Sarah now and they are always an absolute blast. Somehow, despite being genuinely educational and thought provoking, they are also laugh out loud funny and enjoyable. Ms. Sarah always presents ideas and concepts that are difficult and actually interesting to talk about, even if the class agrees on what should or should not be done. I would absolutely and whole heartedly recommend her and am already signed up for a future class with her.

Really fun and interesting classes

I’ve taken a lot of her classes by now and I love how she encourages discussions and we get to disagree with each other and share our opinions and change thought experiments to see how that would affect the ethics of it.

Good Ethics class

It was a fun course!! Very interesting and thought provoking. Dragged a little at times but was ultimately a good time.

Supper great teacher learned a lot

I liked the class because it was very open to discussion! I feel the course covered a lot and improved my understanding of ethics.

Engaging Ethics Classes

Discussions were not lectures; they were engaging with the rest of the class. Everything was interactive. Lessons focused on current events and hypothetical situations. Thought-provoking and intellectual discussions. Highly recommend the Ethics classes that Ms. Sarah teaches!
