Foundations of Education is an introductory course for students considering careers in the teaching profession or for those who just want to be better, more informed citizens regarding the educational system. Students will examine a range of issues related to the role, development, and organization of public education in the United States, including its historical, philosophical, cultural, political, legal, and social foundations and their influence on the teaching profession. Examining one’s own beliefs, values, and goals constitutes a primary theme of the course.
This class will be lecture and discussion based. Students will be encouraged to think critically and participate in discussion of topics. Students will have to opportunity to analyze case studies and come up with a diagnosis for each. They will also develop a presentation on the psychological disorder they’ve chosen.
Students should expect approximately 2 – 3 hours of homework and studying.
NOTE: Registration deadline is August 15, 2022.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
