Genetics is the frontier of research in the field of biology. By gaining a deep understanding of genetics, students can begin to branch out in their knowledge of cutting-edge biotechnology techniques.
Instructional strategies include modeling exercises, laboratory experiments, virtual labs, projects, class discussions, and problem-solving exercises.
At the end of this course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate specific knowledge about genetic inheritance and the structure and function of DNA
- Explain different modes of genetic inheritance
- Explain how DNA can be studied and manipulated in biotechnology laboratories to further human knowledge
- Communicate effectively about biological subjects
This class is a combination of lecture and video clips as well as some discussion.
This class is 1 credit of either science or elective.
NOTE: Registration deadline is August 15, 2022.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
Great Class
I really enjoyed Mr. Meola’s Genetics and Biotechnology course. His classes were very in-depth and challenging. I enjoyed the projects, homework, and experiments and he used great PowerPoint presentations. I feel that I’ve learned more genetics through Mr. Meola’s Genetics and Biotechnology course than I have with any other genetics class, and learning biotechnology for the first time with Mr. Meola was amazing. I would really recommend this course to students out there!
Interesting and fun!
Interesting topics, fun experiments, and Mr. Meola’s knowledge of the content was evident!
Excellent
Our 13 year old son loved this class!
