Biology is the study of life and living organisms. We will use a hands-on, inquiry-based approach to explore the physical structure, chemical composition, function, and development of life on Earth.
Instructional strategies include modeling exercises, laboratory experiments, virtual labs, projects, class discussions, and problem-solving exercises.
At the end of this course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate specific knowledge about biological concepts and themes
- Evaluate scientific claims and issues that affect daily life
- Critically read biological literature
- Communicate effectively about biological subjects
Parents can contact the instructor in August for their child to take this as an HONORS class. There will be an extra long term project that the student will be assigned to receive HONORS credit.
High School Students can use this course as a 1 credit lab science.
NOTE: Registration deadline is August 15, 2022.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
Organized, caring instructor!
My 10th grade son announced today that Mrs. Getson’s OTA Biology class has been his favorite class of the school year. Mrs. Getson starts class on time and is always prepared with an engaging PowerPoint presentation; we both sense her commitment to ensuring that the students understand the topics covered. He and I also appreciate Mrs. Getson’s clear expectations regarding homework. Homework assignments include a great mix of textbook reading, vocabulary work, and hands-on activities. My son’s favorite homework assignment this year was creating a detailed, 3D model of a caffeine molecule! We highly recommend this instructor!
