Welcome to Sociology 101!
This course is an introduction to sociology as a way of understanding the world. Sociology is a field of study that explains social, political, and economic phenomena in terms of social structures, social forces, and group relations. The course will introduce students to the field by focusing on several important sociological topics, including socialization, culture, the social construction of knowledge, inequality, race and ethnic relations, poverty, and political sociology.
This class will be lecture and discussion based. Students will be encouraged to think critically and participate in discussion of topics. Students will have to opportunity to analyze case studies and come up with a diagnosis for each. They will also develop and do a presentation on the sociological issue they’ve chosen.
Weekly homework will vary and will average approximately 2 – 3 hours per week.
NOTE: This class must reach the minimum of five students by August 20th to run. If we do not reach this minimum, parents will be notified via email.
My daughter loves your classes…
My daughter loves your Sociology classes. She told me that even though you allowed her to prepare a note card for her midterm (which she did) – she didn’t use it because she wanted to test herself on what she knew. Thank you for all you do, and for making the subject enjoyable!
review of Indroduction to Psychology
My 14 yr old high school freshman took this class. It was extremely well organized with clear cut expectations. Danielle’s style of teaching was collaborative and she really seemed to know each student well. In fact, we had a death in the family in December. Ms. Danielle was incredibly supportive and allowed J to take the final 2 weeks later so it wasn’t in the middle of a funeral and the holidays. J looks forward to taking Sociology next year. I wholeheartedly recommend this class as a robust social science high school credit.
Thank you!
Thank you! I also wanted to thank you for the class. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. You are an amazing teacher.
A fun way to learn fractions
My daughter throughly enjoyed this class.
The teacher’s fun approach to math and patience has allowed her to see this subject in a much more positive light.
This class also helped unlock some of her blocks and enabled her to “see” more clearly how numbers work.
Fun way to learn
Is there a better way to learn than with food? My daughter looked forward to this class every week and made sure the grocery list had items for class on it. It was fun and I highly recommend it. We’re looking forward to taking more classes with Miss Danielle in the fall.
