Did you know that the second you were born, you were granted rights?
That’s right – as soon as you arrived in the world, there were rules that stated how you should be treated and what you are allowed to do. Some rights are known as natural rights (such as life and liberty), and these are rights that do not change over time or from place to place. Civil rights, however, do change over time and are different in different places all over the world.
Together, we are going to travel back to a time period that, unfortunately, not all people were treated fairly. We will begin in early American History and travel through time focusing on the 1950s and 1960s when heroes like Martin Luther King, Jr, Rosa Parks, Rev. Oliver Brown, The Little Rock Nine as well as countless others decided to stand up for what was right. Finally, we will touch upon current Affirmative Action and equal rights for all.
NOTE: This class must reach the minimum of five students by March 5, 2024 to run. If we do not reach this minimum, parents will be contacted via email.
