This course draws from the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math – collectively known as STEAM.

Using the medium of LEGO bricks, we will explore epic myths and legends, build cities at home and in outer space, create original works of art, and engineer crazy contraptions.

Students will EXPLORE new ideas together; CREATE with LEGO bricks; and SHARE projects with classmates.

Classes will consist of active group discussion, group brainstorming sessions, and videos. Students will be challenged each week to employ the engineering design process as they create LEGO builds of their own design.

Students will hone presentation skills as they share LEGO builds with classmates each week.

Week 1:  LEGO Art:  3D and Mosaic

Weeks 2 and 3:  Storytelling with LEGO: Epic Myths and Tall Tales

Weeks 4 and 5:  Cities of the Future:  Your City – Your Way

Weeks 6 and 7:  To Infinity and Beyond:  LEGO Life in Outer Space

Weeks 8 and 9:  Crazy Contraptions:  Rube Goldberg Machines

Week 10:  Project Presentations, Course Wrap Up and Review

Students will complete a brief comprehension quiz weekly. Student homework build times will vary each week, but students should expect to spend 1 – 2 hours per week building their LEGO assignments.

Registration deadline is December 15, 2021

This class has really helped my daughter think outside of the box. In addition to building cities and learning about important social and environmental aspects of the community, the children are given the opportunity to explore different medias to express in their creative process. Mrs. Brittany is truly amazing and really knows how to get the best out of each student.

A Wonderful Experience

My daughter is currently taking the LEGO Design Series – Build Your City and it has been a wonderful experience for her. Ms. Brittany has encouraged her so much and she’s come out of her shell and is actually participating in class. She tells me each day how excited she is for class again. She’s constantly brainstorming for her weekly assignments. I’m thrilled watching my daughter grow from such a fun and unique class.
