Multi-Sensory Reading & Writing: Part 1 – Grades K – 2 – Winter A 2021 – 5 Weeks – Twice a Week

In this hands on and engaging 5-week course, students will learn phonics and fluency simultaneously through fun and engaging activities implementing a multi-sensory learning approach to engage visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic learners.  We will learn to decode words and quickly identify high frequency sight words through songs, rhymes, games, movements, flashcards, switching sounds to manipulate words through movements, writing as we sound out words, choral reading and re-reading passages together.

It would be helpful if your child knows how to blend basic CVC words and knows most of the letter sounds before starting this class. We will cover the following lesson objectives: phonemic awareness (both blending and segmenting of words), phonological awareness, phonics instruction (CVC/CCVC/CVCC words), and numerous phonics rules.

Last, we will wrap up each class with a creative writing activity related to the passage learned that day. We will focus on writing complete sentences, spacing, and using details to make our writings more interesting.

Please note this class meets on WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY every week from 10:00 am – 10:45 am ET each class.
