Paleontology: a world undiscovered, is a 10-week introductory course, designed to give students a solid understanding of the earth’s geologic history. We will use a series of inquiry labs and hands on guided activities to study the history of earth as seen as the rock layers. Topics covered include geologic time scale, fossil formation, dinosaurs throughout time and fossil extraction
Each week will cover a major theme in paleontology. We will use various methods to reinforce class discussion topics, including creating a model, or using household items to simulate fossil formation. By the end of the 10 weeks, each student will present on a topic, specific era in time, or dinosaur to the class.
Paleontology is a fascinating subject. The goal of this class is to unlock your junior paleontologist curiosity about the history of life on earth and to familiarize them with earth’s major geologic time periods.
For homework, students can expect at least 1 hour of homework per week, including readings, graphing, labs, and questions.
NOTE:
Registration deadline is March 15, 2021.
