This introductory class is designed to give students a better understanding of the solid Earth. Using hands-on labs and simulations, students will deepen their understanding of geological concepts. Topics include Earth’s interior, rocks, earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics and weathering.
This is an online class with hands on class activities. Students will be required to read, take notes, and apply concepts discussed in class with weekly assignments. In addition, each student will select a topic of their choice for a culminating project. This project allows students to explore their favorite geology related topic.
What causes volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and plate tectonics?
By the end of this course students will have a solid foundation in geology, including understanding rocks and mineral formation, the forces that build mountains and tear them down.
Students can expect 1 – 2 hours of at home assignments which range from reading an article, taking an online quiz, or answering questions about that week’s topic.
NOTE: Registration deadline is September 15, 2021.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
