Summer Writing Intensive – Powerful Paragraph – Grades 5 – 8
Tuesday, May 25 2021 @ 1:00PM - Tuesday, July 20 2021 @ 2:30PM EDT| $160.00
In this “technical writing” (nonfiction) class using the IEW Writing philosophy, students will focus on exploring, brainstorming and writing strong, one paragraph pieces. Structures include chronological, descriptive, spatial, enumerative, process analysis, definition and compare/contrast.
As this process is happening the students will learn how to use various stylistic techniques that match the appropriate structure as well as which transitional words work best
Powerful Paragraph Intensive is a good course for those NEW students who want to “prepare” for my Middle School Writing class as well as those students, who want to focus on strengthening a single paragraph.
The goal is to help students focus on making every word count by choosing colorful, powerful words that create vivid pictures using the fewest number of words possible, as well as understanding the specific differences within each structure, and applying the appropriate transitions and stylistic techniques that lend themselves to each structure.
Each week the student will learn a new structure and write their own paragraph using that structure for homework.
Students should expect about 2.5 – 3 hours of writing per week.
NOTE: Registration deadline is April 30, 2021.
There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.
