In this hands-on history class for middle schoolers, we’ll be learning through craft projects and games along with our reading, bringing history to life! Witness exciting events and meet interesting people on a journey through the middle ages! Time travel to the age of Arthurian legend with us as we explore everyday medieval life, castles and medieval villages, science and inventions of the time, knights, vikings, epic battles, the medieval arts, and much more! Together we’ll learn about how people lived in the middle ages and about some of the greatest events of the 5th through the 15th centuries. We’ll mostly be focusing on events taking place in Europe but will also discuss the surrounding cultures of Africa, Asia, and occasionally, the Americas.
Class time will be spent discussing the reading from that week and supplementing it with pictures, videos, discussion, games, crafts, and other activities.
Students will walk away with a foundation of knowledge in medieval history – knowing the basics about important events as well as what daily life was like for different types of people.
(Please note that this class will also discuss, in an age-appropriate manner, serious and sensitive topics such as war, death, disease, slavery, racism & prejudice, natural catastrophes, and related.)
