Who's coming?

One person is attending You Can’t Spell TRUTH without RUTH – The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg- Grades 6-9 – Spring 2022 – 10 Weeks

“Fight for the things that you care about but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

Her friends in Brooklyn called the shy girl, Kiki; however, today, she is known as the feminist legend and late Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In this class, we will learn about the extraordinary story of Ginsburg’s transformation from quiet, devoted student to legal trailblazer and outspoken civil rights icon.

Together, in this class, students will read, analyze, learn the history and envision themselves in RBG’s place.   Additionally, students will keep an interactive notebook where they will journal their thoughts about various situations and events as well as record non-fiction information.

On average, students can expect approximately 2.5 hours of homework weekly.

Please note that students will be required to watch two films in addition to reading the novel and their homework:

Simply put, you can’t spell TRUTH without RUTH.

Have your students join us for a powerful class!

NOTE: Registration deadline is March 1, 2022.

There must be a minimum of 5 students to run this class.

Excellent class with clear and detailed guidance

Rated 5 out of 5

I believe my rising 7th grader has greatly benefited from taking the summer Powerful Paragraphs class from Eva. There were precise and detailed instructions on brainstorming, constructing varied and expressive sentences, and usage of transitional phrases, all in the context of the different writing structures they studied each week. The weekly reviews of past lessons and the incremental addition of new stylistic techniques were great reinforcement for the concepts being thoughts. It was also useful to have the numerous sample writings provided for reference with each lesson. Through out the class, they kids had a growing list of “banned” words to encourage them to choose more expressive and nuanced alternatives (started with one or two and grew to maybe ~15). Overall, a great class for my child who is still in the early stages of honing his essay writing skills.

Unsung Heroes

Rated 5 out of 5
December 12, 2020

My daughter loved learning about “unsung heroes” of the Civil Rights Movement: individuals who deserve recognition, but receive little in the history books. Ms. Eva ties in historical background information extremely well to the book to help understand the bigger picture to further appreciate Claudette Colvin’s courage.

Asynchronous – Powerful Paragraph

January 10, 2022

The Asynchronous powerful paragraph class is well-organized with detailed and precise notes, guides, and instructions. Not only my 10-year-old daughter has been able to improve her writing during the past several months, but she has also developed the confidence and independence to go through the reading and videos for each week and be able to brainstorm, outline, write, and edit her work with no or little assistance from us. Eva does an excellent job of grading and providing helpful feedback in a timely manner. I plan to sign up my older daughter to a similar class and to continue to explore other classes. We highly recommend Eva’s (opentent) classes!

My daughter has enjoyed the Perspectives class immensely. She’s taken on complete independence in this course, which has helped her manage time and deadlines. It’s helped free up time for me as I’m teaching other siblings. Everyone wins!
She said she’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading and discussing good literature and is looking to hone their writing skills. We have appreciated Ms. Eva’s structured teaching methods and approachable personality.

Above and beyond!

This class is pure gold! My son has taken Eva’s IEW WRITING classes for two years. This year, we switched to PERSPECTIVES, so he could apply what he learned in writing class to literature class. For two years, Eva has told me that everything would come together and she was right! All the skills that she patiently taught, went over again and again, solidified and I can see the fruit of his labor.
PERSPECTIVES has given my son the chance to read, discuss, analyze and write about classic short stories in a small group setting and SUCCEED. My son, who used to say he hated writing, looked forward to each and every paper and wrote them with EASE! He sat down on his own and independently edited, added techniques, chose better words and composed beautiful essays.
Eva: I know you said that learning to write takes time and to be patient. I am so glad that I listed to you. You were correct. I can see, N’s gears turning, now when he sits down to write.
Thank you for everything you do! I couldn’t be more delighted.
