Hollie Young, Ph.D. grew up just outside of Buffalo, New York and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Colgate University in upstate New York, a Masters Degree from James Madison University in Virginia, and a doctoral degree with a concentration in Mathematics Education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Hollie has taught math for grades 5 through 7 in Baltimore, Maryland from 2005 to 2015 and taught math methods courses at the college level at the University of Maryland (UMD) from 2012 to 2016. She has won an Outstanding Teaching Award in Baltimore Public Schools in 2011 and a Distinguished Teaching Award from UMD in 2013. She prides herself in knowing how to teach math in ways that make it fun and engaging. She conducted her dissertation research on her own teaching and within interviews her students often shared how math is their favorite subject with Ms. (Hollie) Young as their teacher. Hollie currently homeschools her own children, ages 5 and 7.
When she’s not teaching, Hollie, her husband and their son and daughter enjoy being outside in nature – gardening, hiking, riding bikes!
